With out prejudice, taken from my hand written notes, un editored :

“Today, just in case you are thinking I have lost it, harp on Selomie’s personality too much: She proved beyond a shadow of a doubt who she really is. Here is how it went down.

About 3.30pm I had just got back to the HUT after spending day patrolling. An un-marked dark blue helicopter is flying very low all over the farm! I try call Jan, no comms.I get Lize, who is still in Cape Town, but supposedly works for Selomie on sms. I ask Lize to paste on Facebook’s SAVE OUR RHINO page, about the chopper, this will get everyone aware of the problem, very quickly. I run back to where I last saw my Rhino, about 2 km, on the way I get sms from Lize. Apparently it is Selomie doing a helicopter drill, she told no one about it. Fuck it! I am speechless at first. Then tell Lize how stupid this is. I am totally stressed out, while running trough the bush, I was wondering what the fuck was I going to do, I have only a 3inch Gerber blade to fight these okes with!

Selomie puts that statement on Palala’s page. She knows I cannot reply. It is fucking silly, one does NOT do a drill in a operational area! Lize agrees with me but does not want to get in an argument with Selomie, Lize will be staying at Palana in January, and relies on Selomie’s goodwill.

I am at my Hut and Selomie comes tearing down the road in the white LandCruiser. She is furious, how dare I put that stuff on facebook? SHE is the one that will post about Palala, or at least ok anything I post on facebook. She yells that I should have called her, she has the radio and the guns, she knows all the people in Waterberg and so on. Huge ego. She does not like it that I also know people, hence the warning on “Save Our Rhino” was seen by a lot of people. The name says it, our Rhino, not MY rhino!

I bluntly tell Selomie that I did not call her because whenever she talks to me she is snotty and rude. I tell her I am sick of the way she speaks to me. She gets even more angry, she starts off with telling me that she is pissed off that the funds from my British Lady have not arrived, how she paid for my laptop to be formatted (R450.00) my food, and she cannot afford me. If the British connection does not pay soon I must go etc, etc. As a parting shot she states that all of “her” people reacted on the chopper, except me. I point out that this is not true. I did react, just not the way the Great Selomie wanted me to.”

With this I see that the Rhino have a worse enemy than poachers, the very people that claim to want to help! Selomie and my British Lady have words, Selomie bans her on facebook, Niel threatens to sue her and The Mexican Horse Thief is stuck in the middle!

Who paid for the chopper?

Who’s chopper was it?

The same chopper that was used in the Phila film? Find out who’s chopper that was, you will be shocked.

My mission remains the same: Try help the rhino.

Today, I have for you another exclusive interview, this time with former Executive Outcomes trainer and adviser, Wayne Bisset. Wayne was kind enough to tell us about his time with the company, Angola, and what life was like out in the bush. He also rightly has some fun with me due to my naivete of how warfare is waged in Africa! Check it out:

Please introduce us to your professional background. Were you in the military and/or police before signing on with EO? What was your employment prospects after the end of apartheid before finding work with Executive Outcomes?

I grew up as a Jehovah’s Witness and it was assumed I would sit for three years in DB as a conscientious objector, my childhood friends did this. I did not like the religion and jail was not for me, I need space, Gypsy that I am. My father kicked me out the house when I went to the SADF. I landed in 7 South African Infantry. It was a very well respected unit. I did the basic training and then did platoon weapons, ending up as a 81mm mortarist. Then we went to “the border” and I got my combat experience.

How were you recruited into EO? In your blog you mention setting up an appointment at “the house”. Was this Eeben Barlow’s residence? Who did you meet with there?

I went to my local pub and was surprised to bump into an acquaintance from 10 years back, 7 SAI. He told me about this “job up North.” The house was not a residence as far as I could tell. Office and some guys may have slept over. I met a few guys but do not recall seeing Eeben. I was interviewed by a few chaps that I really can’t recall their names. A Sergeant Pelsa did the paperwork.

“Fear of women in general is gynephobia. Defined as a persistent, abnormal, and unwarranted fear of beautiful women, each year this surprisingly common phobia causes countless people needless distress. Symptoms typically include shortness of breath, rapid breathing, irregular heartbeat, sweating, nausea, and overall feelings of dread, although everyone experiences caligynephobia in their own way and may have different symptoms.
Like all fears and phobias, caligynephobia is created by the unconscious mind as a protective mechanism. At some point in your past, there was likely an event linking beautiful women and emotional trauma. Whilst the original catalyst may have been a real-life scare of some kind, the condition can also be triggered by myriad, benign events like movies, TV, or perhaps seeing someone else experience trauma.”

Shit, and all this time I thought the above symptoms were related to falling in LOVE!

Paradox. The author got told, many years back by a friend who is a published author/journalist, that he should get these scribblings published. The Chronicles I was all that was typed out at that stage. I half-heartedly sent it to a few places around the world and received rejection slips back. Some of the journalists friends read it and too liked it, they said I should add more to it, so the rest was written over time. I submitted it to more publishing houses. Now a new, to me that is, thing came up, I should pay them to publish, upfront and give a % of any sales. Not a Mickey Mouse amount of cash either. The other option was to just self-publish, also expensive and, as Gypsies do not make much money, this was not an option.

Then I found this thing called facebook. I decided to post the whole thing bit by bit on this site. It led to a page been created too.It has been a very interesting experience, and I thank you all for following and the flattering remarks some have made. Not all were flattering, Googie Two inboxed me and said no wonder I cannot get published, my spelling is atrocious. Never mind.

After that I opened a blog, One Man’s Opinion, and put the whole story on 4 pages in there.

Here is a piece of the latest “Contract” a publisher wants me to sign. First I have to pay them and then give away my sole rights to the story. Excuse my French, but fuck that for a bad plan, even if I had the R80 000.oo

The Author agrees to pay Dorrance the sum of $11,200 (Eleven thousand two hundred dollars) in consideration of this Agreement as follows:

the sum of $4480 (Four thousand four hundred eighty dollars) to be paid upon this contract’s signature by the Author

the sum of $4480 (Four thousand four hundred eighty dollars) to be paid upon Dorrance’s submission of the edited manuscript of the said Work to the Author

the sum of $2240 (Two thousand two hundred forty dollars) to be paid upon Dorrance’s submission of the first set of page proofs to the Author.

The Author understands that Dorrance makes no contribution to the cost of the initial publication.

There will be no other cost to the Author for the production of the Work unless the Author shall request or approve any changes or alterations to the proofs of the Work which deviate from the manuscript as originally submitted to Dorrance and edited by Dorrance and approved by the Author.

Dorrance shall determine the retail price of the Work based on the final page count of the designed Work. Dorrance agrees to remit to the Author payments on sales of the Work at the following rate(s):

Ø For books sold to bookstores, wholesalers, distributors, or what is known as the “book trade” the Author receives twenty percent (20%) of the wholesale (discounted) price for each book sold and paid for.

Ø For books sold directly to individual consumers the Author receives forty percent (40%) of the retail price (the price printed on the book) for each book sold and paid for.

Ø The Author, or a legally recognized corporate entity of which the author is materially associated, may purchase further copies at a 45% discount from the retail price plus cost of shipping. Any books purchased by the Author, or a legally recognized corporate entity of which the author is materially associated, are non-returnable and nonrefundable.

Ø It is understood that no payments shall be made on books that are damaged or destroyed; supplied in exchange, given away, or distributed for promotion purposes; furnished at no charge or sold to the Author; sold to a legally recognized corporate entity of which the author is materially associated; shipped but for which Dorrance has not received payment.

Subsidiary rights are comprised of book club, paperback, hardback, reprint, paperback reprint, serial reprint, dramatic, motion picture, television, radio, translation, and other such rights.

While Dorrance does not usually seek out opportunities for the sale of subsidiary rights, should an opportunity present itself, Dorrance may sell the subsidiary rights to the Work. It should be noted, however, that the sale of subsidiary rights of works published by Dorrance occurs with only a small percentage of our authors.

The net proceeds of the sale of any of the aforementioned rights or any other rights not specifically mentioned shall be divided in the proportion of 80% to the Author and 20% to Dorrance.

Only for the purpose of attempting to gain some recognition for the Work, Dorrance may, without compensation to the Author, publish or permit others to publish or to use selections of the Work free of charge.

Ants.

Those small little black ones, they came here from Brazil, you know? Listen carefully and you will hear them speaking Portuguese!

I have a bit of a problem with them in my new place. They make thier nests along the foundations and between the bricks of the driveway. Now as I do not like to use poison I thought about this for a while. Eureka!

Solvation Damp Proof Resin! It sets into a thin film of plastic…. one is supose to use it on walls and concrete features, but since when do I do anything “normal”? I decided that if I drip some of the resin down the hole, first the liqiud resin will kill on contact, then dry and plug the hole up!

Yesterday I proceeded to do just this. :} Worked like a charm.

There will be more posts on the conventional uses of Solvation Damp Proof Resin, written by a leading expert in such matters, while I shall continue to post a few more obscure ideas.

What came about was a humorous blog post about her ancestry. The Anglo-Mexican Connection. That was roughly a year ago. As you will see in the post, I knew she was a model.

I contacted her again just recently with the idea of writing another post. I asked what she would like me to write about this time, and to my surprise, Kelly does something very different from the high profile modeling work. She is a decidedly well-qualified yoga teacher and owns her own school! Have a look at Kelly’s Yoga. Isn’t life full of surprises?

The first thing one has to do when deciding to acquire a new pet is: not to just rush out and grab the first one you see. Shrimps come in a specially designed package, this is an ecosystem of its own; if the ecosystem package is unhappy your shrimp will be unhappy and refuse to allow you to pet it at all!

It is very important that you are as happy with the package as the shrimp is happy with the ecosystem. The variations of packages is limitless, I tend to like the newer models and less frills. This is however a personal choice, no matter what make or model you chose it imperative that you take care of it and make sure the ecosystem is happy. That is a whole lesson on its own! Personally I have great trouble keeping the package in one piece.

However, as an animal lover, I do know how to look after the shrimp itself. Here are a few useful general tips. Please be aware that all shrimps have their own personality and idiosyncrasies. You will have to feel your way with each one.

Everyone knows that a wet shrimp is a happy shrimp, ensure your shrimp is wet before you attempt to pet it.

Always start off slowly and gently, do not just barge in.

Shrimps enjoy been stroked slowly and rhythmaticaly at first. You may increase, as the shrimp gets orgasmatically happy.

While doing that it is always a good idea to pay attention to both the ecosystem and the package at the same time.

Once your shrimp is well satisfied it can be left alone and the rest of the package taken care of. If you spend a while caring for the rest of the package instead of wondering off or falling asleep, your shrimp will be pleased to see you next time.

Shrimps are very intelligent and remember every visit.

Kalk Bay can be a very dangerous place this time of year, as half the gangsters from the Cape Flats flood into this area. If you stay in the Main road and above you should be ok though.

I decided to walk from Fish Hoek into Kalk Bay in order to take some photos, it is not that far. On the walk I saw a whale! I had that very morning told my friend in Kenya that they had all left. My first stop was at the Cape To Cuba Lounge. I knew that they had some fine Cuban artifacts in side and I wanted to take a few photos of them. I first looked for the owner to get permission; this is always a good plan. She was a very pleasant lady and we chatted for a while.

After that I walked around the main part of town which seemed okay, but wanted to go to the harbour, here is where I saw all the gangster type. I had no idea of what was about to happen on my walk back to Fish Hoek.

The road is full of cars going by but the side walk is not very busy. A group of youths approach me, they range from their late teens to early twenties. They are lean and fit, covered in tattoos. One asked me if he can have a cigarette, as I reply and reach into my pocket another older one steps up close. He has a stun-gun crackling mere cm from my chest. He asks me I know anyone that wants to buy it, cheap, R50. Sometimes I am glad for my scary eyes, I lock them on his and tell him I do not, all the while handing his mate the cigarette. He breaks the stare first. They move off. I carry on my way. I check my hands. They are shaking. Only the tiniest bit. I promise. :}
