Arts and Culture – James de Villiers

What the hell does a Mexican Horse Thief know about art, you ask. I’ll have you know some of my best friends are artists, I have actually had my own art hung in a gallery or two,  sold my own artworks too!

Perhaps I will see you here?

Exhibition of paintings by James de Villiers.

The artist will also be in residence at Right on the Rim during the exhibition period where he will create a site-specific work. James will also be be recording experimental music and poetry with Prophet JD.

James de Villiers’ work deals with decay, transformation and random patterns in nature. By using basic subject matter which he has observed and developed over many years as a painter, his work reflects, among other things, a concern for contemporary ecological issues and vulnerability. The latest branch paintings are influenced by studies and musings on Gericault’s “The Raft of the Medusa” and garden refuse.

Part of his stay at Right on the Rim will coincide with a residence by the Austrian artist, Georg Bernsteiner. Georg will start his residency on Saturday 6 March

Sunday, February 28, 2010 at 11:00am
