Fishing Report Amanzimtoti Dec 20

Since it will be a few days before I actually get to Amanzimtoti and meet up with the local fishermen, a little internet research is in order. I know from when I lived in the False Bay area, I could buy Yellowtail fresh from the sea at Kalk Bay. Also when the guys were lucky, at Fishhoek, they sold them right on the beach.

Here is what I found out about which fish I can expect to see in Amanzimtoti.

“Between Durban’s Bluff and Amanzimtoti there is about 20km of coastline that alternates between rocks and sandy beaches. It is mostly fished by local anglers who catch shad, karanteen, blacktail, stonebream and galjoen.

There is a spot here known as Acid Pipe at the end of the road that runs north along the beach. It produces a variety of small pan fish such as stonebream and blacktail. Moving southwards on the main beach, you can catch shad, kob, and stumpnose from the beaches.

South of Nyoni Rocks, there are two rocky outcrops known as River Rocks and Chain Rocks. Both places produce good catches of shad, mostly caught on spinners.”

The Official Report from Fishing Reminder has moved up one rating since the 18th.

According to our calculations, today Dec 20, 2016 has a 2 out of 4 rating  ) and is a average day for fishing.
The current moonphase is a Third Quarter Moon and 62 percent of the moon is visible.
The sun will rise at 04:52 and sets at 18:57 while the moon rises at 23:58 and sets at 11:17.

Best fishing times are indicated by the four solunar periods of high feeding activity.

The two major solunar periods last for two hours or more and normally produce best results. Check out those days when they happen during sunrise or sunset for an extra boost.
The first major solunar feeding period starts at 04:20. The second major solunar feeding period starts at 16:37. This is just around sunset and therefore gets an extra rating.

Minor periods last for about one or two hours. Feeding is said to be less vigorous. But if other factors like weather, tides, sunrise, etc are favorable those times could be just as good as the major times.
The first minor solunar feeding period starts at 10:17. The second minor solunar feeding period starts at 22:58.
